Stability Planning--What is it & how it will benefit you.

Sentinel Search Group has expanded its services to include Stability Planning for individuals on the verge of separation/divorce.

With all of the emotion, frustration and confusion around the impending transition from family/couple to separation, questions fly through a person's mind with the eventual conclusion, 'I need to see a lawyer.'

Those first initial meetings with the lawyer can also be very traumatic and if one isn't prepared, a lot of time is taken up on emotional issues surrounding the events and the issues needing legal advice and direction are clouded by the emotion.

Here's how a Stability Plan will help.

Through an empathetic, consultative interview, the client is guided to set aside the emotions of the situation (it is not a counseling session) and to focus on a responsive platform plan of what they would like their lawyer to work on achieving for them.  The platform report would outline a clearer starting point around issues such as custody, access, visitation, support whereby the lawyer would give legal advice and direction.  The whole point is to save time and money when walking into the lawyers office with a plan to promote the best use of the lawyers time!

How good would it feel to have written plan to provide the lawyer as a place to begin this whole transition?!  This allows the lawyer to focus on doing what they do best, practicing law, with  the clients interests and desires clearly established from the get go!

Perhaps more importantly, sitting down and working out a responsive Stability Plan offers a sense of peace of mind to the client as some clarity and direction can be achieved very early into the whole process of family life changes.

Virtual appointments can be scheduled as well and include a 1/2 free consultation.  An interview would be scheduled for 2 hours.  A comprehensive Stability Plan Platform report would be prepared for the client after the interview, to be presented to their counsel.  All questions can be answered during the initial consultation.  Please feel free to either call, 647-955-4658 or e-mail for more information and/or to schedule an appointment.

"Small Claims Court Simplified."

Monica Goyal is the founder of My Legal Briefcase--an online service which streamlines the Small Claims Court process.  Here is an excerpt from their site....

'Our Story

When we first launched My Legal Briefcase, our mission was simple: make Ontario Small Claims Court accessible for more people. From the beginning, we set our sights on a different kind of legal service, one that simplifies the process and provides a superior online customer experience.

Every year, Canadians put off starting their Small Claims Court action because of the effort involved, the inconvenience, and the high fees. We knew there had to be an easier, affordable way to take care of common legal matters.
Our founding vision was for an easy-to-use, secure, and affordable online legal service. We brought together expertise from the legal and technology fields to make this vision a reality. The result is My Legal Briefcase, Ontario's online legal assistant for Small Claims Court.
Our mission is to set new standards for convenience and service in an industry not known for great customer care. We believe it should be easy for anyone to start their action in Small Claims Court. For us, the goal is to provide a smart, cost-effective way to make sure you are armed with the information you need.'

For more information on this terrific service check out their site at:   https://www.mylegalbriefcase.com

Ontario rules for license suspension for non payment of family support change

Starting December 1st, 2010 the Ontario Government changed the laws governing vehicle seizure to now include chronic non payment of family support payments.  Other actions that may be taken include:
  • garnish bank accounts
  • report you to a credit bureau
  • suspend your driver's license
  • garnish money you may receive from the Federal Government (for example, income tax refunds, GST rebates, employment insurance, Canada Pension Plan benefits)
  • suspend a Canadian passport and other federal licences (such as a pilot's licence)
  • place a lien on personal property
  • reporting you to a professional or occupational organization
  • seizing lottery winnings
  • issue a writ of seizure and sale property you own
  • Default Hearing (A Default Hearing is a hearing in family court before a judge. You have to explain why you are behind in your payments.)

For more information on this change you can view the Ontario Government article at
